Resource & Design
According to Resource and Design Inc.'s president, the objective for the new location was to include the staff to participate in the planning, building and furnishing of the space. RDI previously occupied offices on three different levels, so the new location provided an opportunity for the different departments to work collectively on a single floor. Giving the staff a sense of pride and ownership was critical in developing a successful showroom. In order to organize the program within the open plan, Huntsman created visual zones through the division of space made by different ceiling heights above and by defining carpet patterns below. A floating ceiling caps a central conference room featuring eleven-foot high sliding doors and a clerestory that filters daylight yet provides privacy. Situated along the window line, new furniture products are elevated on display boxes. Situated in the back, the office features open furniture systems to encourage communication and collaboration. Various furniture models and options are showcased throughout the office.
