The challenge posed to the Huntsman design team was to modernize this Desert Style Palm Springs residence built in 1938 while preserving its authentic architectural feel and detailing. In collaboration with the homeowner, designer Michael Agins, the team set out to create a residence that catered to a modern lifestyle, promoted the client’s
eco-conscious values, while still embracing the property’s history and authenticity. The design team organized and streamlined the
circulation and the functional spaces within the home, significantly opened the structure to the exterior landscape and vistas, created new outdoor living spaces (including a pool and spa), and greatly increased the energy
efficiency of the home (including new energy efficient HVAC systems, new roof insulation, incorporating solar panels, installing double paned windows etc.). In addition a whole house automation system was implemented
to modernize and automate the audio-visual systems, lighting, and security systems of the house.
The result is a truly unique home that blends a commitment to restoring a traditional home while adding twenty-first century sustainable efficiency. The project supports the client’s modern lifestyle and embraces the beautiful
landscape and terrain of Palm Springs.
