Pixar Animation Studios - West Village
This ancillary studio underwent a building renovation and expansion completed over seven years. Originally a warehouse subdivided for multiple tenants, the client occupied the building in phases based on a master plan created by Huntsman and culminating in the final build-out and occupancy in 2010. The challenge for the design team was to implement the vision of that early master plan while taking into consideration the evolution of the client’s needs and work style. The design scheme for the final phase of renovation was centered on an expansive employee lounge area, called Sheridan Square. At the physical center of the building and connected to the major circulation arteries, Sheridan Square sits below a 24-foot high saw-tooth ceiling with skylights that flood the interior with natural light. Radiating from this central hub are screening and editing rooms, conference rooms, a fitness center, and art studios, while the office areas located in outlying neighborhoods. Much like an urban master plan, this layout draws building occupants to the center and encourages creative interaction.
