Mercedes-Benz of San Francisco
With an opportunity to capitalize on the exposure afforded by a busy intersection and freeway, Mercedes-Benz of San Francisco chose to expand and convert a 50,000 square foot television studio to accommodate a new showroom, service and maintenance, parts sales and inventory, and administrative offices. Formerly housed in two different locations, these functions were combined to reform adjacencies and meet business growth. Huntsman began the design process by analyzing the site's four existing buildings to determine new functions. The new showroom was once a lobby and storefront, while the sales center housed recording studios. Arterial circulation covered by a glass atrium connects the showroom and sales department. Inside, louvers provide natural ventilation, while outside, the atrium doubles as a billboard. Exterior cladding is in keeping with Mercedes' Autohaus standards adapted to the unique urban site conditions.
