Fairchild
To accommodate a growing number of employees, this global technology company sought to expand beyond its headquarters campus in Mountain View. The design reflects the client’s goals for a flexible, collaborative work environment where the end users’ comfort, health, and well-being are prioritized. In order to attract user groups to the off-campus location, the space offers resources and amenities beyond even those offered on-campus.

The design team developed a visual narrative based on biophilia that reduces the large scale of the buildings by delineating distinct neighborhoods or “campsites”. User-configurable workspaces are augmented with informal meeting spaces including a few canvas tents. Amenity spaces such as a cafeteria, fitness center, wellness center, and game rooms complete the experience.

Building upgrades such as mechanical system replacements and the addition of skylights supported a LEED-CI Gold certification. All materials in finishes and furniture comply with the Living Building Challenge’s Red List which restricts products with known harmful chemicals.
