CSU East Bay Main Library
As part of a greater seismic retrofit feasibility study, the design concepts for the CSU East Bay Library renovation address current and future facility requirements. Some of the objectives that were identified with the University Library include increasing the library's role and image as a center of learning and hub of campus academic life, re-distributing space allocation to reflect 21st century library services and operations, modernizing outmoded facilities and infrastructure (lighting, seating, work space, computer rooms, carrels, shelving, etc.), and better accommodating the diverse and far-reaching academic and informational services provided by the library that extend well beyond print-media. Huntsman and library consultant Philip Leighton worked with the Librarian and her team to reprogram the library and developed a phased master-plan to overhaul the sprawling library facility incrementally while remaining operational.
