SAN FRANCISCO | CHICAGO | NEW YORK - Huntsman Architectural Group announces Julie Engh, Associate AIA, LEED AP, is the recipient of the Harry B. Rutkins Award from the American Institute of Architects New York (AIANY) Chapter. The prestigious honor was unanimously awarded to Engh by the AIANY Chapter Honors Committee and is given in recognition for "exemplary service to the chapter, to the Institute, and to the profession." Previous recipients include: Pentagram, Bruce Fowle. Frederic Schwartz, Jerry Maltz, Umberto Dindo, FAIA, Terrence E. O'Neal, FAIA, and Heather Philip-O'Neal, AIA, Venesa Alicea, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, John Arbuckle, Assoc. AIA.
The awarding committee cited Engh for “continually engaging the public and profession in conversation about the history and practice of architecture.” They jurors added, “From her time as an active member of the AIANY Women in Architecture to her leadership in the AIANY Emerging New York Architects Committee, and continuing to her dedicated work as co-chair of the AIANY Architecture Tour Committee she continuously demonstrates her dedication to raising public awareness” of the history of New York City architecture. Throughout her career, Engh has worked on a wide variety of projects for a varying range of clients, including corporate interiors, hospitality, institutional, retail, and residential. With a passion for the architectural history of New York City, she especially focuses on the adaptive reuse of old facilities into new spaces; her experience includes converting the Interior Landmark lobby of the former AT&T headquarters into retail space including Nobu and Anthropologie. Engh's extensive involvement and dedication to the architecture profession continues outside of the office, most notably as the current committee co-chair of the AIANY Architecture Tour Committee, which organizes architectural walking and boat tours of New York City. Launched in the summer of 2010, Engh co-founded and developed the boat and walking tour programs with a group of volunteer AIANY members. After several New York Times reviews and thousands of participants, over 400 boat tours ranging in route and theme are scheduled for 2017. Additionally, Engh is an author and lecturer for the AIANY and New York State chapters having written a number of articles for the chapter's e-Oculus and Oculus, and held speaking engagements on a range of topics from historic buildings to the future of architecture in the city. She joined Huntsman in 2017 and received a Bachelor of Arts with a dual major in Urban Design and Architectural Studies, and Metropolitan Studies from New York University in New York. “We are thrilled that the AIA New York has bestowed this distinguished honor upon Julie, although, it is no surprise to our firm. Her boundless enthusiasm and passion for architecture is clearly evidenced in her continuing commitment to the design profession and involvement in the AIA,” said Sandra Tripp, Managing Director of Huntsman's New York office. |
