RedEnvelope
Office Design and Branding
San Francisco, CA

Finding a new home provided RedEnvelope the opportunity to reflect its brand image in its physical environment. Building on its success as an online gift retailer, RedEnvelope recently began designing its own product line. The design of the new offices needed to respond to this critical new component of the retailer’s creative and administrative departments. RedEnvelope wanted a space that would attract and reward staff, improve team interaction, and provide better adjacencies than their previous location. The design team developed conference rooms, lounges, workstations, and private offices on three floors of an early 1900s downtown mid-rise. The task of fitting multiple departments into an older building was complicated by the lateral seismic bracing along the perimeter.

The main conference room serves as the boardroom and showroom for new product development. Huntsman designed custom “garage doors” that form dramatic canopies when opened. This feature yields a more formal lobby when the doors are down and curtains to the lounge are closed. With doors open and curtains drawn back, the lobby, lounge, and boardroom become one large room for social events.
