Historic Building Renovation
San Francisco, CA
Designed by Lewis Hobart, this historical high-rise structure had fallen into disrepair with many historical elements hidden or damaged. Huntsman designed new restrooms, main and upper floor lobbies, elevator cabs and an exterior remodel in keeping with the historic fabric. Many elements were restored, while others were reinterpreted with appropriate modern materials and finishes. The main lobby includes new marble and custom architectural bronze finishes, restored bronze grillwork, restored ornate plaster ceiling, new custom lighting and renovated elevator cabs. Upper level lobbies and restrooms were completely renovated to accommodate new building systems, code required egress provisions and ADA/Title 24 accessibility standards. Major challenges were ensuring that tenant and base building work coincided, and that tenant disruption was minimized while maintaining construction workflow and schedules.
