One Union Street
Seismic Retrofit
San Francisco, CA
Damaged by the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, the historic Cowell Cement and Lime Company warehouse underwent an extensive seismic renovation to make it function as a modern-day office building. The project included a complete overhaul of the building's infrastructure. The structural design permitted two floors of offices and one level of parking. The interior design uses industrial materials and existing architectural elements to evoke the building's previous identity, while providing a modern and dramatic space for contemporary design, advertising, and
multimedia tenants.
