The Landmark Union Square
333 Grant Avenue
Adaptive Re-use for Condominiums
San Francisco, CA
Of the recent adaptive re-use projects in San Francisco, The Landmark Union
Square is the first of several conversions of former office buildings into
residences. Huntsman devised an interior design concept with urban elements
to provide a city retreat for perspective buyers. Of the building’s 51,000
square feet, approximately 36,000 square feet were converted into 39 units
ranging from studios to one- and two-bedrooms to two-level penthouse suites
which take advantage of the building’s unique double-height top floor. The
units have sandblasted original brick walls and finishes that include granite
counters, mahogany cabinets and solid hardwood flooring. The Landmark project
gained support from San Francisco Beautiful and the Union Square Association,
received a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Landmarks Preservation
Advisory Board and received various approvals and entitlements from the San
Francisco Planning Department.
