Contract Magazine's 2006
Designer of the Year

Contract Magazine has named Huntsman Architectural Group's Mark Harbick, AIA, IIDA, as 2006 Designer of the Year. This prestigious award is given yearly to an individual whose work and practice raise the standard for excellence in commercial design and exhibit tremendous potential for ongoing contributions to the industry. Previous winners of the award include Orlando Diaz-Azcuy, Shigeru Ban, Shashi Caan, Michael Graves, William McDonough, Peter Pfau, and Lauren Rottet. This year's award will be presented at the 27th Annual Interior Design Awards Breakfast, hosted by Contract Magazine on January 27, 2006 at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City.

Design principal and vice president of Huntsman, Mark is known not only for his award-winning designs, but also for his ability to mentor young staff to achieve their own award-winning work. He is himself a testament to the firm's emphasis on encouraging talent from within, having joined the firm in 1984 as a recent graduate of the University of Detroit.

Mark has designed many of Huntsman's major interior design and architecture projects, including Pixar Animation Studios, Moody's, The Landmark Union Square, Tolleson Design, Mercedes-Benz of North America, Java City Cafés, Redwood Trust, and Sofinnova Venture Capital. His projects have appeared in many books and publications, including Architectural Lighting, Architectural Record, ArchNewsNow.com, Baumeister, Contract, Interior Design, Interiors & Sources, Urban Land, and VM+SD.

Mark was chosen for the award by Contract editor-in-chief Jennifer Busch and the magazine's editors. The January issue of Contract features Mark on the cover and includes a 16-page article about his work.
