Community Involvement
PAWS
and Petchitecture
Huntsman Architectural Group decided in 1995 to
join the talents and enthusiasm of the PAWS Advisory Committee and the AIA
Interior Architecture Committee in a community outreach program that would
benefit both groups. The firm gathered friends and design colleagues together
to brainstorm about ways to link the talents of the design community with
the needs of PAWS community. Through this Petchitecture was born. For the
past ten years, the Huntsman team has remained committed to PAWS and Petchitecture.
Through financial, outreach and design support, Huntsman remains a proud sponsor
and supporter of PAWS.
The
Ronald McDonald House
The Ronald McDonald House provides housing to families who travel far for
treatment for their seriously ill child. While having to address structural
concerns, the foundation took this opportunity to revamp their interiors simultaneously.
Nanci Scouler, then a furniture representative in the architectural community,
recruited 10 design firms from the Bay Area, who were willing to donate their
talents to redesign 10 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms. The foundation wanted a boutique-hotel
environment, a soothing safe place for the families to retire to after a long
day at the hospital. Huntsman Architectural Group drew upon its wide network
of vendors and contractors to fund the project and donate resources.
Destination
Foundation
Destination Foundation is a nonprofit organization that grants dream vacations
to people in the San Francisco Bay Area gay community living with life-threatening
illnesses, such as AIDS and breast cancer. Tails of the City was an annual
benefit with more than 130 celebrities, artists, designers, and others donating
their talents to creatively interpret computer mice donated by Microsoft.
In 2003 the Destination Foundation decided to do something new to raise funds
for their organization. Together with Knoll they presented Runway, an innovative
fashion show and charity auction. Huntsman participated in the Tails of the
city for four years and also designed a garment for the Runway event.
We Care
We Care, brings the festivities and joys of the holiday season to lower income
communities through The Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Since its launch in
1997, We Care is now held in 15 cities around the Nation. With the help of
the design community, more than 4,000 children are given the opportunity to
create gifts for their families and friends in a party atmosphere. In 2002
Huntsman joined Geiger and Herman Miller for the first We Care event in San
Francisco.
