Charles Uehrke - Open Heart Warrior
In early February our colleague Charles Uehrke traveled to Barcelona, Spain for a vacation with friends and family. Two days into his trip, Charles was hospitalized with a cardiac condition which required open heart surgery. The initial valve replacement surgery was followed by complications, so ultimately Charles underwent a second surgery and received a heart transplant.
The good news is that Charles is one tough cookie and his new heart is beating fine! Charles’ friends and family have been at his side as Charles has been recovering in Spain. The doctors are extremely optimistic he will return to a normal life in a few months' time. We can’t wait to see him back in the Bay Area among his friends and his colleagues in the design community of which he has been such an integral part.
Managing a health emergency in a foreign country as well as the ongoing medical adjustments will be challenging. While the focus now is on getting Charles healthy enough for a return to the U.S., he will also need some help from his friends to get back on his feet. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help to ease the financial burden of his recovery.
Charles has influenced, connected with, and is loved by so many people, and we are trying to find ways for everyone to help. Please share this link with anyone who knows Charles. Any donation, however small, will be a great help to our open heart warrior!
For the time being, Charles is not able to receive emails, but please feel free to leave comments on the GoFundMe page for him to read when he is able to do so. Please keep Charles in your thoughts and we will update you all as soon as we know more.
